World Bank invests in Ressano Garcia Thermal Power Plant

No less than 97 million euros have been released by the World Bank for the re-financing of the Ressano Garcia thermal power plant in southern Mozambique. This amount corresponds to half of the essential funds for the refinancing started in 2015. The plant (currently limited to 175 MW capacity) already covers 24% of the country’s energy demand. It is 49% owned by Sasol (South Africa) and 51% by the public oil company Electricidade de Mocambique. This investment will allow the plant to reach a capacity of 400 MW by the early 2020s.
